As you can see Dublin is a wonderful growing city with new homes, businesses and busy shopping centers like Emerald Glen. But have you ever wondered how decisions are made in our schools, roads , parks and safety . That is where the local politics come in !
In Dublin the main leaders are the important people called the city council and the mayor of Dublin. The mayor right now is Sherry Hu of course. The mayor and city council work together to make rules called ordinances, decide how the city spends its money and for the future of the city. Even though national politics can seem loud and dramatic, local politics in Dublin is more about everyday things that affect us directly.
One big topic in Dublin politics is growth. Over the past few years Dublin has built many new homes and apartments, especially in areas like east Dublin. Leaders have to decide how many new homes to allow and where to put them . They also have to make sure that there are enough roads, parks and schools for everyone. Some residents feel that growth is because it brings new businesses and money. Others worry about traffic and crowded schools. The city council has to listen to both sides and try to make a fair balance between both sides
Another important issue is public safety. Dublin has its own police services to keep people and neighborhoods safe from danger. City leaders decide how much of the city budget should go to police , fire services and emergency response teams. Safety is usually one of the most important parts of the city’s budget because families want to feel safe and secure in their homes and parks.
Money is also a big part of local politics. The city council decides how to spend tax money. This includes fixing streets, improving parks and supporting community events. If you have ever enjoyed a festival or played on a clean soccer field, local government planning made that happen.
People who live in Dublin can take part in politics, too! They can attend city council meetings, share their opinions and experiences , and vote in local elections. Even students can get involved by learning about how the city works and talking about the topics at home with their families.
Dublin politics might not always be as exciting as what you see on national news , but it matters a lot. The decisions made here shape the places where we live, learn, and play. When neighbors pay attention and speak up,they help make Dublin a better place for everyone.
