Most people don’t like pottery that much, but I,and the other half of the world, think it’s amazing. pottery is a great way to take your mind off things and a good thing to do if you’re bored at home. it’s also a good gift to give to your friends and family. mentally, working with clay can help with concentration and can relieve stress. Physically, it can make you steadier and better with your hand and eye coordination. Pottery is also pretty hard so it’s great so it’s a great way to build confidence and patience. If you like pottery or think you’ll be good at it then keep reading!
There are many things you can make while working with clay. Most things people do are mugs and flower vases. The hard stuff you can do is making tea cups and pitchers. Another great thing about pottery is it’s completely owned by you. You get to choose the shape, size, color, and texture of whatever you’re making. Like, your part is the most absurd shape and color ever and no one will care. That’s all the reasons why pottery is so amazing. here are some tips and tricks you can use to master the pottery wheel
1. Brace your arms, try to lock your elbows against your hips so then you can build a study foundation. Use your body weight instead of your arm strength.
2. Set up a small mirror near your wheel so you’ll be able to see your creations from all sides.
3. be careful with the speed. use a fast speed for centering, a medium speed for opening and a slow speed for building the walls.
4. Move your hands slowly so you won’t knock off the clay and you can build it much steadier and nicer.
5. Use lots of water while centering, but don’t use that much while doing other parts that don’t need too much, or it will become a soggy clay statue. Make sure to minimize your water.
